LEO SLECHTA, age 91 of Waterville died on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Koda Living Community in Owatonna.
Born on April 15, 1924, Leo was the son of Joseph and Amelia (Knish) Slechta. He was born and raised on the family farm in rural Waterville. Leo attended school in Waterville and later served in the U.S. Army. He married Alice Maas on August 11, 1947 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Leo worked with his father in the family business, Slechta Plumbing & Heating, which he later owned and operated until retiring. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, and making firewood. Leo was an active and lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he was involved on many planning and building committees, sang in the choir, and also was an altar server for many years. He was also a former member of the Waterville Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Bullhead Days committee.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Betty Gregor (Mel Kuball) of Waterville, Bonnie (Greg) Harriman of Waterville, and Kathy Morse of Rice Lake, WI; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marcella; and two brothers, Joseph Jr. and Thomas.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 2-5 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
