Lavonne Jane Stangler

LaVONNE JANE STANGLER, age 87, of Waterville died on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.

Born on June 28, 1935, in Waterville, to Walter and Hilda (Knish) Smith. She received her education at Waterville Public School. LaVonne was united in marriage on July 16, 1952, to Elmer Joseph Stangler Jr. at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny. Together they lived and farmed in the Kilkenny area before making their home in Waterville where they began Stangler Floor and Carpeting which they owned and operated for 22 years. Later in life, LaVonne worked for the City of Waterville for a few years before retiring.

LaVonne had many hobbies including: cooking, baking, traveling, and especially loved going to the casino. She also enjoyed her animals and listening to music. LaVonne was blessed with many grandchildren that she had the opportunity to babysit in their early years. She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville. LaVonne is remembered as a kindhearted, and strong-willed woman who loved her family dearly.

LaVonne is survived by her daughters: Debby (Donny) Byrne of Waterville, Sandy (Tim) Labs of Waterville, Cindy (Brian) Freed of Faribault, and Julie (Curt) Perkins of New Richland; grandchildren: David Byrne and Jeremy (Kristy) Byrne, Hillary (Jacob) Stockwell and Heather Labs, Sheri (Cody) Pettipiece, Megan (Derek) Andreassen, and Amber Cunningham, Andrea (Jamie) Mettler, and Lance (Kelsey) Perkins; 14 great grandchildren; and many friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, LuAnn in infancy.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville with Rev. David Mumme officiating. Interment will be in Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM and continue until the time of the service at the church on Monday.
