Konny B. Thamez
KONNY BJORG THAMEZ, age 83 of Waseca, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Foxdale Living Solutions in Waseca.
Born in Reykjavik, Iceland on May 13, 1936, Konny Gisladottir was the daughter of Gisli Konradsson and Arndis Thordardottir. She attended school in Iceland before moving to the United States when she was seventeen, at which point she lived with her sister and her husband near Deerfield, Minnesota. After arriving in the US, Konny was married to Dave Condon. She worked in the kitchen at the Owatonna hospital for several years until her marriage ended. She went on to work at Truth Tool in Owatonna for many years and was then married to John Carroll. Their marriage ended in 1982. On July 23, 1993 Konny was married to the love of her life, John Thamez, in Owatonna. Later in her life she was trained as a nursing assistant and cared for people in their homes until her retirement. She had been a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Owatonna for many years. Konny enjoyed visiting garage sales, caring for her dog, Mitsy, Siamese Cats, chocolate (especially Reeces Peanut Butter Cups), and caffeine free Diet Coke.
Konny is survived by a niece and nephew in Minnesota, Susan Mosher and Ronald Minske; many other nieces, nephews, and loved ones throughout the United States and Iceland; three step-children, Delores "Lori" (Robert) Ferry, Debra Battenfeld (Bill Fette), and Rick (Jane) Thomez, all of Waseca; nine step-grandchildren and their spouses; nineteen step-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and eight siblings-in-law and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; five sisters, one brother; four siblings-in-law; and several other more distant relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, January 13, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, with Fr. Gregory Leif officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca. Memorial donations may be directed to the senders local humane society in memory of Konny. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice Staff, Foxdale Living Solutions Staff, and Alternative Resolutions staff for the care they provided to Konny.
