Kenneth Earl Hamilton was born on March 7, 1925, in Cooperstown, North Dakota to Millard and Cora (Sorenson) Hamilton. He was a proud 1943 graduate from St. Cloud Tech High School. On September 8, 1944, Ken enlisted into the United States Army Air Force and proudly served his country in the Pacific conflict and was honorably discharged on January 29, 1947. Following his honorable discharge he attended St. Cloud State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. In 1959, Ken furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison, receiving a Masters Degree in science education. While attending St. Cloud State, Ken met Vivian Peterson and they were later united in marriage on August 23, 1947. They shared 58 years of marriage before Vivian passed away on August 20, 2006.
Ken taught math at Byron and Dodge Center, where he also coached football. He spent the majority of his career teaching in Hibbing before retiring in 1984. In retirement Ken and Vivian moved to Duluth where he worked as a computer programmer until fully retiring in 1992. In the summer of 1993, they moved to Waseca where he was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, participating in the church and bell choirs. While in Waseca he was also an active member of the Waseca Lions Club and Waseca County DFL. Ken was proud of the cabin he built for his family on Burnt Shanty Lake north of Grand Rapids, in true math teacher style as he built it to be an isosceles triangle. In his spare time he loved building and flying radio control airplanes. Ken will be remembered for making lefse and his famous caramel rolls that he would deliver around town. He especially cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.
Ken is survived by his children: Paul (Beth) Hamilton of Walker, Carol Hamilton (special friend, Gary Thomas) of Wabasso, Mary (Merril) Schultz of Waseca and Tom Hamilton of Duluth; grandchildren: Kathie (Mark) Smith, Michael Hamilton, Brad (Matt) Schultz, Serrie Hamilton, Ethan (Emilee) Schultz, Ian Hamilton and Meredith Hamilton; great grandchildren: Caleb, Noah and Lucy Smith; former daughter-in-law: Carol Hamilton; nephews other relatives and friends.
