KAY ELMA POPPLER, age 83, of Waseca gained her angel wings on January 17, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca.
Born on September 19, 1939, in Waseca to Frank and Elma (Cadwell) Hasner. Kay attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Waseca Central High School with the class of 1958. On June 2, 1973, Kay was united in marriage to Ronald Poppler at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Chaska. Kay and Ron began their married life in Chaska for a short time before moving to Shakopee until 1980 when they relocated to Rosen, Minnesota for a short time. In 1984 they moved to Nassau, Minnesota, where they owned and operated K&R Cafe in Marietta, Minnesota. In 1990, Kay and Ron moved once more and made their home in Waseca, where Kay worked for Erickson's Grocery Store for many years until being promoted to help care for her daughter's grandchildren.
Kay enjoyed dancing, watching classic movies, thrift shopping, tending to her floral gardens and most importantly her Minnesota sports. Her family meant the world to her! She would send cards on many occasions to those she loved. She enjoyed meeting family for breakfast at the Pheasant Cafe, going on trips and camping in her Airstream with her family. She especially cherished babysitting her grandchildren. Kay will be remembered as a devoted wife, inspirational mother and the most loving grandmother. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.
Kay is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Ron; children: Troy (Katrina Rahier) Poppler, Victoria (Rafi) Quader, and Sara (Wes) Ruedy; grandchildren: Jaime Hayden, Clint Poppler, Dylan Howen, Joseph Poppler, Zachary (Jennifer) Pillatzke, Kelsey Pillatzke, Saffron Quader, Kayley Ruedy, Creed Poppler, Riley Ruedy, Tyseer Nabi, and Colten Ruedy; one great grandchild, Shyla Hayden. She is also survived by her siblings: Evelyn Jane Hasner, O.J. Hasner,and Thomas Hasner; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and her beloved dog Lucky.
Preceded in death by her parents Frank and Elma Hasner; daughters: Debra Howen and Tammy Poppler; grandsons: Brandon Steven and Tyler Poppler; great granddaughter: Dawn Lynn; and siblings; Ruth Ripka, Hazel Wright, Frankie Copp, Charlet Oser, Bessie Byrd and Ezra Hasner.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Interment will be in Janesville Cemetery. Reception at the church following the service.
