Kathy was born in the family home in Waldorf on April 19, 1917 to Anna (Janike) and Joseph Fogal, the eighth of 14 children. Except for brief periods, she spent her entire life in Waldorf, a village she dearly loved. She attended Waldorf High School. Kathy married Henry "Bud" Meyer on April 8, 1939. She loved the challenge of being a wife and mother. She reveled in cooking and was famous for her creamed pheasant, chicken and dumplings, and chocolate chip cookies. She was very proud of her garden and lawn, always growing an abundance of beautiful flowers. Her home was brightly decorated with her crocheting, unique craftwork, and many sequined calendars, dating from 1969. Kathy led a very busy and full life. Some of her most treasured activities included teaching Vacation Bible School at the First Lutheran Church in Waldorf, selling poppies for the VFW, and delivering fresh cookies to her many Waldorf friends.
She always had a wonderful singing voice and at age 10, taught herself to yodel. She performed many times at barn dances and various celebrations in the Waldorf area. She also delighted in entertaining at nursing homes, schools, and the Waseca County Fair. Some of her special memories included yodeling from a mountain top in Switzerland, singing at senior dances in Las Vegas and Long Beach, CA., and yodeling on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Left to love, honor, and cherish her memory are her three sons, Bob of Long Beach, Clark (Special friend Pauline Fenelon) of Elysian and his three sons, Mike (Katie) of Hopkins, Joe (Nancy of Mpls, and John (Becky) of Plymouth, and Steve (Nina) of San Antonio and their two sons, Brian (Celespe) and Marc; four great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Irene) of Mankato; and sister, Marie Kerbo of Cave Junction, Oregon.
In addition to her parents, and her husband on March 30, 1983, Kathy was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters: Anna Groskreutz, Elizabeth Metzler, Rosie Lehman, Stella Johnson, Jim Fogal, Ed Fogal, Chris Fogal, Francis Fogal, Ben Fogal, June Fogal, and John Fogal.
Kathy''s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Colony Court. Memorials will be given to the Alzheimer''s Association Research Center.
