KATHERINE MARIE “KATHY” FLOGSTAD, age 71 of Waseca, died in the early morning hours of Monday, November 11, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Kathy was born in Alexandria, Virginia on February 27, 1953 to parents Clyde O. and Arlene M. (Miller) Alexander. She attended the Immanuel Lutheran School in Alexandria before later graduating from Jefferson High School with the class of 1971. In the years that followed, Kathy’s mother moved to Waseca to help care for her own mother, and Kathy and her father remained behind in Virginia. During that time, Kathy worked for an automotive dealership. Following her father’s passing in 1973, Kathy also moved to Waseca. On June 6, 1987, Kathy was married to Jerry Flogstad at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. Over the years she was employed at Bird’s Eye Foods, the E.F. Johnson Company, and at the Waseca Post office where she was a fixture for nearly forty years before retiring. Recently she worked a few odd jobs cooking at the American Legion, at Dairy Queen, and at Yellow Mushroom Pizza, and she also worked with Lenz Bus Service and as Head of Housekeeping at Camp Omega. Kathy had a servant’s heart and was always quick to help anyone in need. She enjoyed softball and volleyball leagues when she was younger and was recently very involved with the Waseca American Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Jerry of Waseca; two sons, Michael (Ashley) Flogstad of Williston, ND, and Steven Flogstad of Mankato; four grandchildren, Leena, Danica, Maverick, and Brooklynn Flogstad; and one sister, Karen “Bubbles” (Dennis) Thompson of Bemidji. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Alexander; and a very close uncle, Burnell “Firp” Miller and his wife Marilyn.
