Karen K. Kolas, age 73 of Minneapolis and formerly of Waseca, died peacefully on Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2018.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 11:00 am at the Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service ~ McRaith Chapel of Waseca. A Visitation will be held for two hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel on Saturday. Private family graveside was held this past Spring.
Memorial Proceeds will go to the "Mankato Symphony Kevin Kanne Memorial Young Artist Competition" Fund.
Karen Kay, the daughter of Kennard and Delora (Beese) Kanne, was born on July 21, 1944, in Morristown. Karen attended Waseca Central High School and graduated with the class of 1962. She then continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she studied English, Music, and Art, before graduating in 1969. On March 4, 1978, she was united in marriage to Robert B. Kolas at St. Marys Greek Orthodox Church. Theyve spent forty wonderful years together in the same home in Minneapolis. Karen briefly worked for various companies before spending twenty-eight years at Daytons and Marshall Fields as an operations clerk. She enjoyed painting with water colors, gardening, and was a fabulous cook.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kennard K. Kanne; brother-in-law, David Kahnke; and by her brother, Kevin Kanne.
Karen is survived by her husband of forty years, Robert; mother, Delora Kanne; sisters Korrinne Kanne and Kendra Kahnke; sister-in-law, Vicki Kanne; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
