Karen 'DeNee' Spies April 9, 1944 - October 25, 2014

Karen "DeNee" Spies, age 70 of New Prague and formerly of Waseca, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca.

Visitation will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Karen Judith, the daughter of Warren and Dorothy "Dode" (Sybilrud) Thomson, was born on April 9, 1944 in Oakland, CA. Karen''s family would move back to Minnesota and she attended Moorhead High School and graduated with the class of 1962. On December 12, 1964 she was united in marriage to Allen Spies at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, MN. Karen worked for many years as a nurse''s aide at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca. She later worked as a Receptionist at the Malastrana Health Care Center in New Prague. Karen enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and many of her finished items would end up with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved deeply. Karen also loved going shopping and looking for great deals and had been a member of a bowling league.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Allen Spies of New Prague; by three children, Tori (Rick) Larson of Lakeville, MN, David (Lisa) Spies of Dundee, MN and Dodi (Jim) Huston of New Prague, MN; by ten grandchildren, Ricky (Katie) Larson, Mitchel Larson, Alyssa (Ryan) Ulvi, Brock Spies, Brady Spies, Brandt Spies, Bronson Spies, Brandi Spies, Jamee (John) Hopkins and Jess Huston; by two great grandchildren, Colton Hopkins and Gracien Larson and other relatives and friends.
