Joyce Grothe, age 84, of Madison Lake, died Tuesday morning, November 13, 2018 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
A Celebration of Joyces Life will be from 11 AM 1 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2018, with a Memorial service following all at Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service ~ Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville. Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery.

Joyce Harriet was born on December 19, 1933, in Fargo to Harry and Carrie (Indrelie) Olsen. She grew up in Madison Lake and graduated from Mankato High School with the class of 1951. Following her education Joyce worked for her parents at the Olsen Boat Landing and Olsen Caf in Madison Lake. On February 6, 1955, Joyce was united in marriage to Roger Grothe at Bethleham Lutheran Church in Mankato. Together they raised four children and were later divorced. Joyce was a dedicated homemaker. She was involved in many of her childrens activities as a cub scout leader, 4H Leader and a snowmobile instructor. In her spare time she tended to her horses and chow chows. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Later in life she began doing daycare for various families in the area and was know as "Grandma Joyce" by many of the children. She enjoyed her time spent with friends having coffee at the Community Center and later at the Boat Landing in Madison Lake. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pathstone, Oaklawn, Mayo Clinic Hospice East and Mayo Clinic Health Systems ~ Mankato for the amazing care Joyce received over the past few months.
Joyce is survived by her children: Wayne (Susan Casper) Grothe of Madison Lake, Tom of Madison Lake, Karen (Steve Danielowski) Vogelsang of Osceola, WI, and Shari (Dale) LaCanne of Faribault; grandchildren: Michael Grothe, Matthew Grothe, Amy Jo Grothe, Karrie Vogelsang, Lucas (Caralea) Vogelsang, and James Wobschall; great grandchildren: Kaylynn Grothe, Jaicee Vogelsang, Ashton Vogelsang, Jackson Vogelsang, and Axel Vogelsang; other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Elaine Frederick and granddaughter Erica Grothe.
