Joseph R. McGannon was born on April 13, 1932 in Wilton Township to John and Mary (Lonergan) McGannon. He attended country school through 8th grade, when he began helping on the family farm. On January 8, 1953, Joe enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country until being honorably discharged on December 8, 1954. Joe was united in marriage to Veronica Marie Kramer on May 12, 1962, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Together they began a family while living on the McGannon Family Farm.
Joe was a hard worker, farming throughout his life, waking up early in the morning to milk cows, working for neighbors and Birds Eye for 21 years. Although he never really retired, Joe always was able to keep himself busy helping others. Joe was a lifelong faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf, and Knights of Columbus. He was a devout Catholic, attending Mass weekly and saying the rosary daily. He enjoyed dancing to old time and polka music, traveling to various places throughout the United States and playing cards, especially pfeffer. He always was willing to give back, delivering meals on wheels and volunteering in other communities with storm damage. Joe was a fun loving man, always welcoming to visitors and truly cherished the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Veronica of rural Waseca; children: Michael McGannon of Waseca, Peter (Angela) McGannon of Waseca, Daniel McGannon of Waldorf and Mary Jo (Joe) Keltgen of St. Peter; grandchildren: Jack, Thomas, Matthew and Jenna Keltgen and Alexia, Jackson and Jonathan McGannon; sister-in-law, Theresa Neigebauer of Waseca; brother-in-law, Vernon Kramer of Adrian; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter in infancy; siblings: Francis (Mary Ann) McGannon and Theresa (Joe) Wengronowitz.
