JOSEPH FRANCIS MCCARTHY, age 83 of Faribault, formerly of Waseca died on Monday, February 20, 2023 at his home.
He was born, February 19, 1940, a son of the late Tom and May McCarthy. On December 21, 1962, he married Loretta Larson at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca who preceded him in death on February 23, 2018.
After graduating from New Richland High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he would go on to become a Proud Military Veteran. After serving in the military, he went on to begin his career as a Business Owner/Truck Driver. Joe and Loretta loved driving across the country hauling livestock, while also working on their farm together. They were very proud of their Irish Heritage, even being Mr. and Mrs. Emerald for the Irish American Club. He loved to fish, collect antique tractors, tell “dad” jokes, gardening, being famous for his giant sunflowers and fresh veggies, but most importantly, being known as a peacekeeper. Joe loved spending time with his family above all and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by three children, Bret McCarthy of Harrisburg, SD, Lori (Joey) Schleis of Faribault, MN, Jason (Jenni) McCarthy of Nixa, MO; six grandchildren, Erin and Courtney Schleis both of Faribault, MN, Justin and Jordyn McCarthy, both of Nixa, MO, Connor and Cooper McCarthy, both of Harrisburg, SD; two siblings, Judy (Chuck) Veflin of Plymouth, MN and Jeff (Wendy) McCarthy of Waseca, MN. He is preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February 27, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. John Omans officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30am until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The American Heart Association; Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs; St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Waseca, MN or any organization of your choice in Joe’s name.
