John Mulcahey December 19, 1927 - December 18, 2010

John A. Mulcahey, age 82 of Waseca, went to meet the Lord on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Waseca Medical Center-Mayo Health System. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Marty Schaefer, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in the St. Ann Cemetery, Janesville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Wednesday afternoon for one hour prior to services, at church. There will be a 4:30 parish rosary and 7:30 parish prayer service Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. John Arthur was born on December 19, 1927 to Arthur and Elizabeth (Berg) Mulcahey in Janesville, Minnesota. John helped on the family farm as a young man, and attended Janesville schools. "Smilin John" enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. While stationed in Frankfurt, Germany John served as a medic for the 869th until his honorable discharge in 1952. In June of 1964 he was united in marriage to Delores Ann Skalicky at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna, Minnesota. John and Delores resided in Waseca their entire married life. He was employed with E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca, retiring after 37 years of service. He later worked 13 years as a greeter for Wal-Mart in Waseca. He and Delores belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. John was also a member of the V.F.W. Sweet-Sommers Post 1642 in Waseca, and the Irish American Club of Southern Minnesota. John volunteered his time to the Waseca Food Shelf and helped with the Community Thanksgiving Dinner in Waseca. As a young man John enjoyed boxing, and earned the honor of Golden Glove. John and Delores loved sharing in the care of their granddaughter at their home. John will be remembered by his wife Delores of Waseca, his son Jeff Mulcahey of New Hope, and his three daughters, Sam (Jeff) Flaherty of Mason City, IA, Tammy (Bart) Jans of Sioux Falls, SD, and Katie Mulcahey of Waseca; by his grandchildren Jordan, Tanner, Bo, Blake, Bryar, and Jailynn; by his siblings, Monica Fritz of Waseca, Betty Ann (Tom) Furr of Rochester, Richard (Carol) Mulcahey of Janesville, and LeRoy Mulcahey of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brother Donald Mulcahey and infant brother Arthur, and sister Stasia Stenzel; by his brothers-in-law Sylvester Stenzel and Orvit Fritz.
