John 'Jack' Luther
JOHN E. "JACK" LUTHER, age 86 of Waterville, died on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, surrounded by his family.
Born in Waterville on December 29, 1930, Jack was the son of William and Mary (Busse) Luther. He graduated from high school in Waterville and attended one year of college before serving in the United States Air Force. Jack married Joan Manston in Napa, California on May 1, 1954. Jack then spent twenty years as the owner and operator of the Ben Franklin store in Waterville, and later spent another twenty years working for IDS. Jack was a life-time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, where he was active with the Knights of Columbus and sang in the choir. He had also served on the Waterville City Council, as a Le Sueur County Commissioner, and he helped establish Sakatah State Park in Waterville.
Jack is survived by his children, Gretchen Dahle of Faribault, Jeff (Jane) Luther of Roswell, GA, Paul (Cathy) Luther of Kalamazoo, MI, Steve (Darlene) Luther of Waseca, Bruce (Mayra) Luther of Apple Valley, Elizabeth Luther-Olave of Eagan, and Timothy (Tanya) Luther of Victoria; nineteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; two brothers, James and William; one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Braizer; and son- in-law, Dan Dahle.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
