John Clemons

JOHN MARTIN CLEMONS, age 66, of Mankato, died on September 25, 2024, at the St. Mary Campus of Mayo Clinic in Rochester. 

Born on September 13, 1958, in Waseca, he was the eighth of ten children of Lawrence and Leta (Root) Clemons. John was raised in Waseca and graduated from Waseca High School in 1977. On April 25, 1980, John was united in marriage to Mary Morrill at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Together they made their home in Waseca and welcomed their son, Alexander, in 1988. In 2022, John and Mary moved to Mankato.

John worked at Corchran’s in Waseca before starting a career at Brown Printing. During his time there, he attended Mankato State University, receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration Management and Industrial Relations, and a minor in Economics. In 2014, he joined Bosch in Owatonna, followed by Johnson Outdoors in Mankato. Just for fun, he worked part time at Menards. 

John loved the community that raised him and was always looking for ways to give back. He began his life in government in the Police Reserve, later being elected to the City Council and serving three terms as Mayor of Waseca. He gave back to his church as a religious education teacher and was a substitute teacher for many years in Waseca and St. Clair. 

John enjoyed going on road trips, exploring farmers markets, hiking, gardening, reading, and most of all, being a great husband and father. 

John is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary; son, Alexander (MaKenzie) of Urbandale, IA; siblings: Deb (Terry) Roemhildt, Susan Clemons, Jane Clemons, Carol (Jim) Hanson, Kevin (Keri) Clemons, Paul (Julie) Clemons, Gale (Jim Peterson) Clemons, and Ellen (Cliff) Canavin; mother-in-law, Sandra Morrill, brother-in-law Jon (Diny) Morrill, sister-in-law Meleah (Art Scheevel) Huxford, Todd Huxford; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lee; father-in-law, Frank “Buzz” Morrill. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Glenn Frerichs as Celebrant. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Thursday and continue until the time of the service at the church.
