JEFFREY CHARLES LANE, age 78, of Waseca died on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at his home.
Born on November 5, 1943, in Minneapolis to Charles and Norma (Blood) Lane. He attended Edina Public School and graduated with the class of 1961. Jeff furthered his education at the University of Minnesota, and left to enlist in the Air Force. He served from 1964-1968, part of that time in Germany. Jeff then worked at Control Data for 2 years, followed by 3 years at Midland Cooperative. On August 11, 1973, he was united in marriage to Sally Sellman in Golden Valley. They moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he worked on a project for the US Post Office in New York. In 1977, he took a job at Brown Printing in Waseca where he started their IT department. Jeff worked at Brown for several years while he and Sally together raised their three children. During this time, he went back to the U of MN to finish his degree, instilling in his children the value of an education and a love of learning. He left Brown to start his own computer consulting business, “Crystal Image Software”.
Jeff loved playing and listening to music, watching sports, and he enjoyed camping and boating with family. He was well-read, especially in the fields of science and technology. He always had several projects going on that he would tinker with at his leisure. He was ready, willing, and able to offer advice and a helping hand on any of his family’s home repairs and remodeling. He designed a tracking app for firefighters. He received recognition from the Waseca Board of Education for his commitment and service to Waseca students, and was recognized by the Waseca Marching Classic for his more than 10 years of service on its board and time spent organizing the parade.
He will always be remembered as a very kind and supportive man, generous with his time and talents, who had a great sense of humor and who cherished time spent with his family.
Jeff is survived by his former wife, Sally of Waseca; children: Vanessa (Benjamin) Holmes of Maple Grove, Jared (Jessica) Lane of Burnsville, and Rachel (Paul) Deraas of Apple Valley; eight grandchildren: Greta, Evelyn, and Charles Holmes, Owen Oskerson, Jonas and Jude Lane, and Sawyer and Corie Deraas; sister, Terri (John) Mindock; brothers: Toby Lane and Randy (Christie) Lane; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including lifelong friend Ches (Lory) Strom.
