Jeannie L. Malecha, age 77 of Northfield and formerly of Faribault, died on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Rochester, MN following a sudden illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale, MN.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to services.

Jeannie Lorraine, the daughter of Louis and Elsie (Hayes) Valek, was born on July 13, 1938 in New Prague, MN. On May 4, 1957 she was united in marriage to Richard F. Malecha at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood, MN. Together they would raise their family of five children and Jeannie also worked at Sheldahl and later would work in food service at Carleton College, St. Olaf College and retired from Shattuck-St. Mary''s School. Richard preceded her in death on March 15, 2001. After Richards''s death, she moved back to Northfield. Jeannie enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed her trips to Florida every year. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going out to breakfast every month with her breakfast group.

She is survived by her five children, Richard F. Malecha Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Gaylord M. (Juanita) Malecha of Canyon, TX, Renee J. Malecha of Rochester, MN, Lawrence D. (Dawn) Malecha of Faribault, MN and Dawn Marie Malecha and Phillip Forshee of East Hampton, MA; by five grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; by her brother Roman Valek of Northfield, MN and by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by two sisters, Sharon and Margaret Valek.
