Janet K. Nafe, age 81, of Albert Lea, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Health System - St. Mary's Campus in Rochester.
Janet Kay Myers Nafe was born into the Robert and Margaret Myers family on June 4, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD. She joined her sister, Judy, before welcoming Susan and Rick to the family. The six Myers had many adventures together - road trips to Illinois, school events, fancy dinners, and music that always filled their home! She married Bill Nafe and his four children, Terry, Tim, Bob, and Andrea in 1978. Bill and Janet spent many years selling and docking boats before their retirement in 2014, retreating to Arizona where she happily spent her last years. She was so close to her sisters, Judy and Susan, that they bought a house just blocks away and spent much of the year in Arizona with her! They were three of the funniest, quirky, wine drinking sisters around! They fought with vigor but they loved each other the same way. She traveled often throughout her life, always coming home with a suitcase full of treasures she bought along the way. Janet may have had small feet (size 5) but she had a big personality. She was tenacious, funny, talkative, demanding, opinionated and proud of it! Holidays at Janet’s house were always festive and fancy. She loved decorating almost as much as she loved shopping! Like her mother and sisters, Janet was always planning her next party. When you were with Janet you could count on her telling far-fetched tall tales about her life. She thought they were accurate and wasn’t fond of anyone correcting her with the facts! She loved reading to her grandchildren and singing silly songs to her nieces and nephews and even great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Bob and Margaret, brother Rick, sister Judy and brother in law Jim.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the Minnesota Orchestra where she regularly went with her sisters or Make-A-Wish foundation so children can go to Disney World, one of her favorite places to be.
To honor her memory, wear a glamorous outfit, go shopping, and have a party with fancy dishes!
