JAMES OLAF MADSON, age 90 of Waseca, passed away at his home on the morning of Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
James was born in Albert Lea on September 14, 1932 to parents Arnold and Elsie (Barton) Madson. He attended country schools near Albert Lea and Waseca before enlisting in the United States Navy where he finished his schooling. Jim served with the Navy on three tours overseas during the Korean Conflict era. Just before his honorable discharge, he was married to Irene Violet Fell at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca on July 6, 1955. Together they made their home in Waseca where they raised their family. Over his working years he was employed at Waseca Concrete as a truck driver and tile maker. Jim was a simple, hardworking man who loved visiting with friends and family, spending time with his grandchildren, and following Vikings Football. He had a fantastic memory for history, geography, and dates, so of course he was an avid fan of Jeopardy. He was a life member of the Waseca VFW and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Irene of Waseca; six children, Rhonda (Frank) Stencel of Waseca, Debbie (Randy) Stencel of Waseca, Connie Sikel of Waterville, Cindy Madson of Mankato, Mitchell (Elizabeth Valentine) Madson of Maiden Rock, WI, and Jason (Susan) Madson of Waseca; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Maynard (Joanne) Madson, Larry (Marion) Madson, Carol (Tom) Erickson, Linda (Paul) Enger, and Brenda (Myron) Kamrath. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; five siblings, Delores Steinke, Darlene Steinberg, Everett Madson, Randy Madson, and Richard Madson; and a son-in-law, Michael Sikel.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
