JAMES “JAMIE” MARINER, age 58, of Waseca died on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at home with his family by his side.
Born on November 22, 1963, in Worthington to Donald “Lefty” and Evangeline “Jane” (Wendt) Mariner. He received his education at Sacred Heart Catholic School and Waseca Public Schools. On May 6, 1995, Jamie was united in marriage to Laurie Gilster at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca and together they made their home in the country south of Waseca where they raised their daughter, Chelsea.
At the age of 15, Jamie began working for Brown Printing where he continued to work until Quad Graphics closed in 2018. He spent a short time working for Koda Senior Living in Owatonna before working for Rhino Markers in Waseca until his health no longer allowed. Jamie could fix anything and enjoyed tinkering with small engines. His many friends would regularly drop off their equipment for him to fix in his spare time. He loved animals and racing go karts alongside his daughter, son-in-law and his best friend, Tim Winter. Jamie’s family will always remember his incredible sense of humor that he shared with everyone who knew him. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help his family and friends. Jamie attended Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca. In May of 2021, Jamie was diagnosed with cancer and over the past year he fought a courageous battle up until his last day when God chose to call him home. Although he was not able to physically be present at his daughter’s wedding his family knows he was there in spirt and will continue to walk by their side.
Jamie is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Laurie; daughter, Chelsea (Nathan) Lund of Waseca; siblings: Ginny Schroer of Waseca and Michael Mariner of Florida; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Marlys and Norm Meyer; father-in-law: John Gilster; brothers-in-law: Lonnie (Teri) Gilster, Aaron (Jen) Meyer, and Jon (Jane) Meyer; sister-in-law, Brenda Gilster; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
