James Fred Rollings

James “Fred” Rollings, 76, of St. Clair passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Mankato Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 2:30 PM, Wednesday December 28 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Clair, visitation will be 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday December 27 at the Starkson & Steffel Funeral Home ~Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville and one hour prior to service at church. Burial will be in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery of St. Clair. Arrangements are being handled by Starkson & Steffel Funeral and Cremation Services ~ Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville.

Fred was born May 8, 1940 to Calvin and Martha (Thompson) Rollings at home in rural Lake Crystal MN.

He graduated from Mankato high school with the class of 1959.

On April 12, 1975 Fred married Melinda Glaser and together were blessed with three children, Danielle, Katie, and Lucas.

Fred spent his career working for Tire Associates, and was always willing to listen and help anyone in need. He was a lifelong member and active volunteer at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Clair.

He was a truly dedicated family man to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed any activity with his grandchildren and supporting his kids throughout their life. He was a very hands on dad and husband, and his kindness will be remembered by many for years to come.

He enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, sitting on his porch reading a good mystery, supporting his MN sports teams unconditionally, and even was able to check off his bucket list that he got to attend MN Twins Spring Training this last year with his family. Fred loved his road trips filled with adventure and jokes with anyone who would join, especially Tom & Luann Freitag! Family was truly what Fred valued, and his love and songs to the grandchildren will be held dear for many years to come.

Fred is survived by his wife of 42 years, Melinda; children, Danielle (Sean Laird) Rollings-Laird, Katie (Korey) VanErdewyk, and Lucas (Sarah) Rollings; grandchildren, Ean and McKenna Laird, Conner and Ella VanErdewyk, and Mason Rollings; siblings, Marlyss Johnson ,Barb Youell and Clayton Rollings; sister-in-law, Ardie Pemble and brother-in-law, Allan (Sue) Glaser.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Rollings, brother-in-law, Phil Pemble and in-laws, Norbert (Ardella) Glaser.
