Jack P. Johnson

October 2, 1930 — February 26, 2021

JOHNSON, JACK PAUL - age 90, passed peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Symphony Assisted Living in Linden, MI with his sons by his side.

Jack was born in Detroit, MI on October 2, 1930, the son of the late Edgar and Mary (Bobbio) Johnson, and was raised in Laurium, MI. Jack attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI, graduating in May 1952 with a BS in Civil Engineering. Jack married Claire Bonenfant on July 7, 1952 in Calumet, MI. He served in the United States Airforce as 1st Lt. with Honorable Discharge in July 1954 and received the National Defense Medal. Jack and Claire resided in Crown Point, IN where they raised their family and where Jack worked for US Steel. In 1986, Jack retired after serving for 34 years in management positions. Jack enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife Claire, his two sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among Jack’s other passions were being an avid, lifelong snow skier into his 70’s - including serving on the National Ski Patrol; road trips across the U.S.; golfing; fishing; and water skiing. Since retirement, he enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan, competing with Claire to see who could catch the biggest and most Northern Pike. Winters were spent in Central Florida soaking up the sunshine and taking in the sights, including weekly pilgrimages to Plant City for strawberries and fresh fruit. After Claire’s passing, Jack felt very fortunate to find a deep companionship with their long-time family friend, Carol Weaver, after her husband had also passed. They enjoyed …until Jack relocated from Crown Point to Linden.

He is survived by his two sons, Jack E. (Joan) Johnson of Waseca, MN and Bruce J. (Patti) Johnson of Linden, MI; six grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Johnson, Amanda (Nick) Korent, Crystal (Todd) Henry, Jack A. Johnson, Lindsey Johnson and Zach Johnson; and five great-grandchildren; Teddy and Miles Johnson, Claire and Ryker Korent, and Maddox Henry. He is also survived by his partner Carol Weaver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Claire Johnson in 2013. Jack has been cremated and a private family burial is planned on July 8, 2021. He will join his wife Claire in Calumet’s Lakeview Cemetery, overlooking the lake (Superior) that he so loved.
