Herbert Volkmann
HERBERT ROY VOLKMANN, age 82 of Waterville, died on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Born in Janesville Township, Waseca County, on July 24, 1936, Herb was the son of Jacob and Clara (Roeker) Volkmann. As a boy he attended Alton Parochial School before moving to the west end of Lake Francis and attending Waterville High School. Known to his classmates as "Baron" he graduated with the class of 1955 after serving on student council as student body President for three years. Following his schooling Herb served his country in the United States Army. On June 11, 1958 he married Edna Quiram at St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Church. In addition to his love of farming, Herb worked for the E.F. Johnson Company in Waseca, the Year-Round Cab Company in Mankato, and finally at Corchrans in Waseca. He was an active member of St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Church, and spent over 20 years as a "4-H Dad" and at least 17 years as a "Band Dad". He enjoyed following Minnesota Twins baseball, working jigsaw puzzles, and had a great love of fishing.
Herb is survived by six children, Lynda (Mike) Goerisch of Robbinsdale, Norman (Rita) Volkmann of Janesville, Gerald (Jennifer) Volkman of Eagan, Brenda (Daniel) Tonn of Elysian, Jeffrey (Susan) Volkmann of Liberty, MO, and Larry (Cheryl) Volkmann of Bloomington; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two brothers-in-law, Doug Winter of Blooming Prairie, and William "Bud" Williams of Hibbing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna; two sisters, Shirley Winter and Arlene Williams; and two brothers, Victor Volkman and Raymond Volkman.
Visitation will be held from 3-7PM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Church (21377 Tetonka Lake Road, Waterville, MN 56096), and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, August 31, 2018 at St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Church, with Rev. Russ Grabau officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Cemetery.
