Helen "Sally" Forrest was born on July 3, 1915, to Frank and Florence (Meyer) Conway in Waseca. She was a 1932 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School. Sally continued her education, completing her undergraduate degree in Sociology at Dominican University, formerly known as Rosary College, in River Forest, IL. She graduated with honors in 1936. Her graduation was followed by a year of graduate work at the University of Minnesota. Sally began working in various communities throughout Minnesota as a social worker, before working for the Red Cross at their Great Lakes Naval Station during WWII.
It was during this time that she met her future husband, Frederic Forrest. They were united in marriage on January 23, 1944, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. They shared 37 years of marriage before Frederic died unexpectedly in 1981. Throughout her career, Sally was employed in both private and public agencies and for Red Cross Home Services. Sally enjoyed volunteering at the Waseca Arts Council, Sacred Heart Catholic School and Church, the Waseca Services chair for the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home where she also worked part time as a social worker. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was active with the Catholic Daughters as a charter member. She was also a member of Lakeside Country Club, the Travel Club, the Monday Study Club, and the Waseca County Historical Society. Sally shared her keen sense of humor and insightful reflection with all of us. She enjoyed reading, traveling, golfing, and playing bridge. Sally especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The blessing of family provided her the greatest joy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Latham Place and Lakeshore Inn Nursing Home for the personal and attentive care Sally received as a resident.
She is survived by her children: Dan (Cheryl) Forrest of Waseca, John (Joanne Franke) Forrest of Brainerd; her grandchildren: Sean Forrest, Meghan (Yuuki Metreaud) Forrest, Jennifer (Steve) Dunn, Timothy McBrien, James McBrien, Molly (Nicholas) Pizzola, Sarah (Nathaniel Barusch) Forrest and Joel (Fianc Claire LeDuc) Forrest; 10 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild; son-in-law: Joseph McBrien of Bronxville, NY; the Scott family... including many nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Kathleen McBrien, and sister, Marjorie (Vernon) Scott.
