HELEN MAE WENDLAND, age 85, of Waseca, died on Monday, July 6, 2020 at her home.
Born on April 22, 1935, in Waseca to Ernest and Luverne (Bartz) Wilker. Helen attended Waseca Public School. On March 5, 1976, Helen was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Wendland in South Dakota. Helen and Kenneth raised their family in Waseca where she worked as a stay at home mom for their three children and later her grandchildren. She was the #1 fan of her grandchildren and loved attending their sporting events. She loved to travel with Ken, and they spent many winters in Sarasota, Florida and Mesa, Arizona until Ken passed away in 2011. She continued to travel, taking trips to London and Las Vegas to visit grandchildren while they lived there. Most recently she enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, snuggling and reading them books. Helen enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bridge, and quilting (especially with the women of Christ the King Church). She was a member of WOW (Women Of Worship), Monday Study Club, all school reunion planning committee, and numerous bridge clubs. Helen was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca.
Helen is survived by her children: Kris (John) Snow, Dennis (Faye) Malecha, Curtis (Linda) Malecha all of Waseca; fourteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; siblings: DarLene Fell of Waseca, Richard (Pat) Wilker of Rochester, Jody (Teri) Wilker of Waseca, Roxann (Mike) Knudson of Eagle Lake, Pam Meyer of Waseca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Luverne Wilker; husband, Kenneth Wendland; sister, JoAnn Amsrud, brother, Donald Bartz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Helen Wendland.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Funeral Service will be on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Cary Larson officiating. Burial will be in Woodville Cemetery in Waseca. Dennisfuneralhomes.com
