Helen E. Ewert

October 18, 1923 — April 10, 2017

Helen E. Ewert was born on October 18, 1923, in Mountain Lake to William and Martha (Brown) Kleinow. She was baptized on September 21, 1924 and later confirmed in her faith in her youth all at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Helen graduated from Comfrey High School with the class of 1942 and continued her education at Mankato Teachers College, receiving a Teachers Certificate in 1945.

On September 10, 1946, Helen was united in marriage to Leonard Ewert at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Together they moved to Leonards family farm, where they raised their family. In 1975, they moved to Janesville, later returning to country living, residing in Iosco Township. Together they shared 52 years of marriage before Leonard died on April 8, 1998.
Helen taught at Waseca Country Schools and Trinity Parochial School for many years retiring in 1958. Along with being a teacher throughout her life she was dedicated wife and mother. Helen was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville where she was a member of Ladies Aid for many years. She was also a member of the Craft Club. In her free time she enjoyed painting ceramics, crocheting afghans for all of her grandkids, and making beautiful Nativity Scenes. She was an avid reader and gardener. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
When Helen needed assistance with her daily care she moved to Latham Place and later to Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home in Waseca. She lived there until she passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Larry Griffin and Rev. Paul Muther, officiating. Interment will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 6 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Services ~ Arnoldt Chapel in Janesville and will continue for one hour prior to the service at Church on Saturday. Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville.
Helen is survived by her two sons: Dennis (Nancy) of rural Janesville and Terry (Donna) of Delano; one daughter, Pamela (Ron) Morris of Bloomington; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Anita Hildebrandt of Waseca; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Darla (Ewert) Riley; three brothers and one sister.
