Harold E. 'Honk' Young October 18, 1929 - February 9, 2013
Harold E. "Honk" Young, 83 of Owatonna, formerly of Montgomery, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Valley View of Owatonna Assisted Living.
Private graveside services will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville is handling arrangements.
Harold Ernest was born October 18, 1929 in Stacyville, Iowa to Herbert and Allie Marie (Cleveland) Young. He was raised in St. Ansgar, Iowa and attended St. Ansgar schools. He entered military service in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII, and served in the occupation forces in Germany. During his military service he was united in marriage to Selma Windham on September 1, 1951 in Sumter, SC. Upon his honorable discharge in August of 1951 he returned home and began a long career with Interstate Power Company. His career took him to LeRoy, Owatonna, and Montgomery, MN. Following his wife''s death in 1987, Harold married Helen (Strauss) Abraham at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. "Honk" retired as area manager from Interstate Power Company in 1991, after over 40 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed following Minnesota sports. He was a longtime member and past commander of the Owatonna American Legion Post 77.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Young of Janesville; children, Catherine Smith of Owatonna, and Harvey (Debbie) Young of Phoenix, AZ; step-children, Lori (Mike) Fellows of Montgomery, and John Abraham of Mt. Juliet, TN; by his grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Arlene (Leighton) Demaray of Ellendale, and Alice McNaney of Norfolk, VA; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Selma in 1987; brother, Kenneth; step- daughter, Becky Miller in 1999.
