Harold A. Ackman
HAROLD A. ACKMAN, 95, of Waseca, formerly of New Richland, died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at New Richland Care Center.
Harold was born on July 13, 1921, the son of William C. and Elizabeth (Tessmer) Ackman in Deerfield Twp., Steele County, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm in Deerfield Twp. before the family moved to Wilton Township in Waseca County. Harold was a lifetime farmer in Wilton Township. Harold married Bonita Frank on November 18, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Harold and Bonita lived, farmed, and raised their family northwest of New Richland. They were married for 71 years.
Harold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland where he was active on the church council and served as the Financial Secretary for several years. Harold served on the boards of Wilton Township, New Richland Coop, Waseca Area Senior Center, Local Thrivent Board, and was very active in many farm organizations. Harold was also recognized for his volunteer work in the New Richland and Waseca Communities, being recognized as Waseca County Outstanding Senior Citizen, WCCO Good Neighbor, R.S.V.P. Program, Top Farmers of America Association, Volunteer Recognition for working with the Commodity Program, Waseca County 4-H, Proudly We Hail program with Waseca Exchange Club, Roger J. Wolfe Achievement Award from Minnesota Valley Action Council, Volunteer with the Senior Citizen Journaling Program with Youth at Hartley School, A Good Samaritan of the Year award from Help Hospitalized Veterans, Certificate of Participation Award from the Special Olympics Bowling program.
Harold enjoyed driving for the Waseca County Transportation program, playing cards, bowling, dancing, spending time with family, traveling and serving with many farm organization committees.
He is survived by his daughters: Kathryn and her husband Roy Ticknor of LaCrosse, WI, Caryn Wendt of Waseca, MN, grandchildren: Amy Ticknor and husband Larrry Dauffenbach and their son Isaac of LaCrosse, WI, Rob and Anne Ticknor of Greenville, NC, and Molly Ticknor and her fiancé Mike Leeper of Lees Summit, MO; sister Alvina Frank of Blaine, MN and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his wife Bonita, his son-in-law Myron Wendt, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and his parents. Harold will be remembered for his love of family, helping others, and his enthusiasm for dancing and farming. He was proud to be a farmer. Blessed be his memory. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland with Reverend Paul Andree officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, New Richland.
