Gordon Shevlin May 1, 1921 - October 10, 2009
Gordon L. Shevlin, age 88, of Faribault, passed away suddenly on October 10, 2009 at his home. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church (139 Mercy Drive) in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault with Military Honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Gordon Leo Shevlin, the son of Leo and Angela Shevlin, was born on May 1, 1921 in Faribault. Gordon served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On February 12, 1942 he was united in marriage to Wilma Hubers at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Faribault. Mrs. Shevlin preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1993. He worked as an electrician and was a member of the Local 110. Gordon enjoyed keeping very busy and remained so up until the past couple years. At age 80 he climbed tall trees to cut them down. In his younger days, he and Wilma enjoyed square dancing and Gordon was quite a good square dance caller. He played the harmonica and loved to tell stories. He spent winters in Pharr, Texas and the summers working around his home in Faribault. He is survived by his three children, Keith (Ava) Shevlin of Rocky Mount, NC, Cheryl Shevlin of Faribault and Gary (Lynne) Shevlin of Eagan, MN; by three grandchildren and two twin great granddaughters; by his brother Warren (Lorraine) Shevlin and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Bernice Lange and Marcella Forcelle.
