GLORIA M. BROCKMILLER, age 89 of Waseca died on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.
Gloria was born on her parents farm in Watonwan County, Minnesota on February 12, 1928. The daughter of Christ G. and Ruth (Blackstad) Johnson, she was the 7th of 12 children. Baptized Albion Church in Godahl, MN, she lived with her parents in the Godahl area until the age of 7 when they moved to a farm in Kandiyohi County. She attended country school in the Lake Lillian area through the 8th grade and then attended Olivia High School, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, she moved to Waseca where she was employed at Farmers National Bank as a secretary and teller for 5 years. She then worked as a secretary for the president of Birds Eye until 1958. She opened and operated a truck stop on the east edge of Waseca for about a year and a half. Lastly, she worked at the law firm of Nelson, Casey, Tripp & Dow (now Einhaus, Mattison, Carver & Haberman P.A.) from 1960 until her retirement on January 1, 1997.
Gloria married Victor R. Johnston on April 4, 1949 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca and they were the parents of three children. They later divorced and she married Harold O. Brockmiller on November 26, 1965 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Meriden.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1947 and taught the first grade Sunday School for about 3 years. She was a member of the Waseca VFW Auxiliary, serving as president for one term, and she assisted in the forming of an Association for Legal Secretaries, serving as president of the local, district and state association.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Jim) Mosher and Merrie (John) Gusta; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sonia (Bob) Johnson and Sandy (Doug) Watson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, James Johnston; six brothers, Ralph, Norman, Eldon, Jerry, Jimmie and Roger Johnson; and three sisters, Elaine Flann, Verna Krause, and a sister in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. Visitation will be held on Saturday, one hour before services at the church. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church.
