Gertrude Swain
Gertrude M. "Trudie" Swain, age 95, of Charlotte, MI went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, August 23, 2019, at Bickford Assisted Living in Lansing, MI.
She was born April 14, 1924, in Elysian, Minnesota the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Murden) Swain. Trudies early years were spent in Minnesota. After her fathers death, Trudie and her family moved to Michigan. Trudie enjoyed spending time with her family both in Minnesota and Michigan. Trudie graduated from Grenada High School as valedictorian of her class and went on to receive her teaching degree in Minnesota with additional training at Western Michigan University. She spent her entire career in education. Trudie began teaching at a one room school house and finished out her career at Charlotte Public Schools. She adored her students and enjoyed watching them learn and grow. Trudie was a devoted Christian lady all of her life. She gave her heart to the Lord at an early age and never wavered in her decision. Trudie was one of the original founding members of Charlotte Assembly of God. She was proud to have taught Sunday School there for over 70 years. Bible reading was very important to her. Her Bible gives evidence of that with its well-used and tattered pages. Trudie never was a proponent of television. She could often be found reading or watching Gods magnificent creation outdoors. Trudie enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds just outside her window and loved her kitty cats. Trudie was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Ruth A. Swain.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 4:30 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
