Gertrude Ann Woychick was born on October 8, 1928 to Daniel and Catherine Harnett in Devils Lake, ND. She graduated from St. James Academy High School (Grand Forks, ND) in 1947, and later continued her education at the University of North Dakota, where she graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1950.
Gertrude was married to Robert F. Woychick on August 22, 1950 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND. Robert and Gertrude spent their first year of marriage working in Panama, and then moved to Waseca, MN in 1951. As anyone will tell you, Gertrudes favorite place in the entire world was Waseca; it was here that Robert and her raised three children, built a house overlooking Clear Lake, and shared 49 years of marriage until Roberts passing on November 14, 1999.
Gertrudes loving nature, and desire to serve others, permeated all facets of her life. She started her nursing career as a registered nurse at the Waseca Memorial Hospital, and later worked at the Southern School of Agriculture and the Owatonna Migrant School. In 1957, Gertrude took time away from her career to raise her family. In 1977, she returned to work as a hospice nurse for the Waseca County of Public Health. After retirement in 1993, Gertrude continued to serve others as a health care volunteer.
Gertrude was best known for her big smile, compassionate heart, and witty sense of humor. She was a devout Christian, faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and also enjoyed playing in numerous bridge clubs. Her most cherished moments were spent with her family, friends, and beloved little dog, Billie. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three children: Marianne Genter and her husband Fran of Madison, WI, Jay Woychick and his wife Shawn of Rochester, NY, and Wendy McMahon and her husband Dirk of Excelsior, MN; her seven grandchildren: Katie Cartwright and her husband Michael, Daniel and Laura Genter, Sarah Woychick, and Caitlin, Denis, and Anna McMahon; her two great-grandchildren: Bennett and Jack Cartwright; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition, our family wants to thank our mothers special neighbors. She cherished your love and support.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings: Daniel Harnett, Richard Harnett, Mary Hennessy, and Margaret Peterson.
