Georgene F. Roemhildt
GEORGENE FREIDA ROEMHILDT, age 73 of Elysian, died at her home on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
Born on July 27, 1946, Georgene was the daughter of George and Freida (Kaupa) Roemhildt. Her father died when Georgene was young, and her mother remarried Art Hannigan who Georgene knew as her father throughout her life. She attended school in Waterville and graduated with the class of 1964 before continuing her education at the Mankato School of Business. On November 18, 1967 she married Clayton M. Roemhildt at St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Church while he was home between two tours of duty in Vietnam. Following Claytons discharge from the Navy they made their home in North Mankato for a short time before moving to the west side of Elysian. In 1976 they moved into the home that they built together, and they have been there ever since. Over the years Georgene worked as a transcriptionist at ISJ Hospital in Mankato, as a secretary at Nu Check Prep in Elysian, as a Home Interiors Sales Rep, and later as a teller at Elysian State Bank. Throughout her entire life, though, she was a caregiver to everyone around her including many special foster children. Georgene was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-German Lake, sang with the Sweet Adelines for many years, and was a member of the Elysian American Legion Post 311 Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.
Georgene is survived by her husband of 52 years, Clayton Roemhildt of Elysian; three sons, Darren (Kathleen) Roemhildt of Owatonna, Darrell Roemhildt (fiancé Mandi) of Janesville, and Daniel (Melissa) Roemhildt of Waterville; one foster-son, Jeff (Rachel) Becker of Burnsville; ten grandchildren, Drew, Justine, Kaitlyn, Derek, Mason, Lane, Daulton, Gavin, Maddex, and Addie Jo; and one great-grandchild, Leighton. She will also be remembered by five sisters-in-law, Arlene Roemhildt of Le Center, Pat Roemhildt of North Mankato, Marlene (Dale) Berndt of Elysian, Carol (Duane) Wendt of Elysian, and Lois (Earl) Flynn of Elysian; and two step-sisters, Gloria Hannigan of CA, and Lucy Brown of TX. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her step-father; three siblings in infancy, Richard, GloriAnn, and Florence; and three grown siblings, Carlyle, Arnis, and Albert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in German Lake, with Rev. Richard Jorgensen officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations will be collected by Georgene's family and disbursed to various causes in her memory. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
