George Kastelle

June 8, 1947 — October 14, 2017

George L. Kastelle
George LeRoy Kastelle, 92, of Waseca, died Saturday, October 14, 2017 while on his annual elk-hunting trip in NW Colorado.
The eldest son of Linnie & Astrid (Thyse) Kastelle, he was born in Fergus Falls, MN. Following high school, he enlisted and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. On June 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Margaret Darlene Peck in Cherokee, IA. He worked in the St. Clair Clothing store in Cherokee, then in Windom, MN and then moved to Waseca in 1956, where he resided until his death. He was the well-known proprietor of St. Clair & Kastelle Clothiers for many years.
Although at times the stereotypical "stubborn Norwegian," he always had a heart for serving others, and lived to share and serve. He volunteered countless hours, and was particularly proud of his work for the Waseca County Historical Society. Among his other activities were the Lions Club, Waseca Ambassadors, Gideons International, and in his church (for many years at Grace Lutheran, in following years at Christ the King Lutheran, where he was among the founding members). For many, many years on Valentines Day, he and Darlene served cake and ice cream to the residents of Maple Terrace. He was an exceptionally skilled woodworker (especially furniture and cabinetry). He had a deep and abiding love for the Lord and His Word, which he shared with and taught to many.
He is survived by his son, Rev. Roger (Marigen) Kastelle of Luck, WI; his grandchildren, Kirsten (Jamie) Turner of Queenstown, NZ, and Joshua (Tiffany Ferris) Kastelle of Homer, AK; and five great-grandchildren ~ Oliver, Isla & Hazel Turner and Aubrey Mae and Mabel Kastelle. Also surviving are brothers Carroll (Dee) Kastelle and Rev. Rodney (Arlene) Kastelle, both of WA, as well as other relatives. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife Darlene, and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Jewel Kastelle.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca, MN, Rev. Cary Larson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on a later date. Memorials preferred to Gideons International or Christ the King Lutheran Church.
