George Judd Strunk

George "Judd" Strunk, 86 year old resident of Janesville and former owner of Janesville Oil Company died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday evening, November 10, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Larry Griffin and Rev. Paul Muther, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Janesville American Legion Post 281. Private family interment will be in St. Johns Trinity Cemetery in Iosco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Starkson & Steffel Funeral Home ~ Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or Janesville American Legion Post 281.

George "Judd" Strunk was born on February 22, 1931 in Janesville to George and Leona (Roemhildt) Strunk. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth all at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. George attended Trinity Lutheran Elementary School and later graduated from Janesville High School in 1949, where he participated in Football, Baseball and Band. Following his education he began working for his dad at the Janesville Oil Company. In 1951, Judd was drafted into the United States Army and served our country in the Korean War until 1953, when he was honorably discharged. Following his military service, he worked part time as a mail man for the Janesville Post Office and continued to help his dad at the Janesville Oil Company. He later purchased the Janesville Oil Company from his parents which he owned and operated for over 50 years.
Judd was united in marriage to Elaine Robran on April 12, 1959 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Waseca. Together they built a home north of Janesville where they raised their family. Judd and Elaine shared 49 years of marriage before she passed away on August 2, 2008. He continued to live in their home until September of this year.
Judd was a worker. While Judd and Elaine owned and operated the Janesville Oil Company for many years, they would work six days a week until 2001 when they sold the store. Judd continued to stay involved in retirement. He was very active in the Janesville community, being a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Post 281. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, talking smart around the coffee table at Eds, watching MASH and shaking dice with his customers. Judd was a big Minnesota Sports fan. In his later years Judd enjoyed the simple things in life: picking up sticks in his yard, and counting the cars as they drove by his house. He liked to go to his grandchildrens sporting events. He will be remembered by his family for his love for their mom and his unique sense of humor. Judd especially cherished the time he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren and friends.

Judd is survived by two sons: Bruce (Lynn) Strunk of Waseca and Barry (Laurie) Strunk of Nicollet; one daughter: Sara Greff (special friend Dave Will) of Janesville; son-in-law, Lyle (Becky) Gahler of Janesville; sister, Jane (Gill) Snyder of San Bernardino, CA; brother-in-law, Mylon (Sharron) Robran of Waseca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
