George J. Kucera April 23, 1919 - April 15, 2014
George J. Kucera, age 94, of Faribault, MN, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Faribault Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive in Faribault. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to services.
George Joseph, the son of Edward and Marie (Strand) Kucera, was born on April 23, 1919 in Wheatland Township, Rice County, MN. He attended country school, Montgomery High School and Dunwoody Institute for Auto Mechanics. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 185th Infantry from 1941-1945. He was stationed in Archipelago, South Philippines and Luzon. For his service he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the service George worked various jobs and drove school bus from 1949-1956. On June 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Hedwig Bertille Schmidt in Harding, MN. Mrs. Kucera preceded him in death on April 29, 1999. George started his own business, Kucera Petroleum Distributing, and was a distributor of gas and fuel oil for Texaco for 50 years. George was a member of the American Legion Post 43 and the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Faribault.
He is survived by two daughters, Georgene (Kucera) Andrist of Blaine, MN and Theresa Kucera of Faribault, MN; by three grandchildren, Alex Grems, Matt Andrist and Skylyn Kucera; by two brothers, Robert Kucera of Bloomington, MN and Val Kucera of Lonsdale, MN; by his sister, Agatha (Harold) Hebl of St. Paul, MN and by nieces, nephews and other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Sr. Eloise Kucera and Marcella Kucera and his brother Dr. Lou Kucera.
