George J. DeGrood Jr. August 7, 1925 - November 25, 2012

George J. DeGrood Jr., age 87, of Faribault, died peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his home following an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church (139 Mercy Dr.) in Faribault, with the Rev. Donald DeGrood and Rev. Kevin Finnegan, concelebrating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault and on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

George John DeGrood Jr., the son of George John Sr. and Barbara (Kern) DeGrood, was born on August 7, 1925 in Faribault. On June 20, 1950, George was united in marriage to Eileen Reuvers at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. George and Eileen were lifelong farmers in Warsaw Township. He was a hard working man that loved being outdoors, taking care of his animals and his land. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren for tractor and gator rides around the farm along with going for rides around the countryside to look at how the crops were doing for his neighbors. George enjoyed time spent visiting with all of his family, playing cards, reading farm magazines and the Daily News. He had an infectious smile that always seemed to be present on his face.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Faribault; his children, Carol Gomez of Tucson, AZ, Diane (Steve) Winkels of Faribault, Jean (Al) Gohlike of Lonsdale, MN, Steve (Gail) DeGrood of Faribault and Patty (Ron) Radatz of Faribault; his 12 grandchildren, Lisa Lippins, Christopher Gomez, Christine Bothun, Ryan Winkels, Zack Gohlike, Elizabeth Gohlike, Shane DeGrood, Sheena Murphy, Matt Sterling, Ashley Radatz and Brianna Radatz and 9 great grandchildren; his sisters Sr. Marion DeGrood of Cuba City, IA, Barbara Ann DeGrood of Woodbury, MN, Therese DeGrood of Rochester and by Cecelia DeGrood of Faribault; his brothers, James (Donna) DeGrood of Eagan, MN and Edward

(Phyllis) DeGrood of Faribault; his sisters in law, Carol DeGrood and JoAnne DeGrood, both of Faribault; his brother in law, Donald (Jeanette) Reuvers of Faribault, MN and by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Suzy Kaderlik and child and by his brothers, Victor and Robert DeGrood.
