George L. Gruber, age 84, of Faribault, died on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville, MN (7525 Dodd Rd., Faribault), with Fr. Erik Lundgren, associate pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the St. Patrick Cemetery in Shieldsville with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the church. George Leo Gruber, the son of John and Mary (Crawford) Gruber, was born on August 18, 1926 in Faribault. He was raised on the family farm in Wells Township, Rice County and graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1944. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Beverlee DeCoux, and they had a daughter, Chavienne. They were later divorced. George farmed on his family''s farm in Wells Township and operated his own truck route. He delivered milk to the Cheese Caves for many years. He also hauled many seasonal products for the canning companies and during the sugar beet harvest throughout Minnesota. He was a longtime resident of Wells Township. He is survived by his daughter, Chavienne Gruber and her husband, Nicholas Chope of Minneapolis; four siblings, Alice Langer of Northfield, his twin, Grace Silkey of Northfield, Irene (George) Green of Fridley, and John "Jack" (Rose Mary) Gruber of Faribault; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis Gruber; and two sisters, Anna Huss and Mary "Marie" McDonald.
