Gene Edward Stoering
GENE EDWARD STOERING, age 89 of Springfield, formerly of Waterville, passed away at his home on Friday, July 7, 2017.
Born in Waterville on October 2, 1927, Gene was the son of Henry and Emma (Hiller) Stoering. He attended Gishville country school and then Waterville High School. On June 13, 1950 he married Virginia OMeara in Le Center. On February 10, 1966 their lives were forever changed when a house fire took the lives of their five young children. Through faith, family, friends and many prayers Gene and Virginia adjusted to many changes. Gene worked for H&S Logging, WW Blacktopping, and Winco in Le Center. Through these years God blessed them with two more children. Tragedy struck again in June 1997 when their son was killed in a jet ski accident. In November 2015 they moved to Springfield to be closer to their daughter and her family. Gene loved fishing, hunting, and playing cards, but most of all he enjoyed time with his family. He was a gentle and grateful man ending his day saying, "This has been a good day!"
Gene is survived by his wife, Virginia, who he was proud to say he was married to for 67 years; daughter, Karen (Barry) Reindl of Springfield; daughter-in-law Deb Stoering of Goodhue; grandchildren, Jessica, Jenny, Jackie, Julieann, Timothy, Christina, and Andrew Reindl all of Springfield and Jake Stoering of Aberdeen, SD, and Katie (Ty) Pike of Minifee, CA; and two great-granddaughters Harbor and Henslee Pike. He is also survived by one sister, Inez Meyer of Waseca; brothers-in-law, Jim, Lenny, and Pat OMeara all of Le Center, and Gerald OMeara of Rosemount; and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by both of his parents; six children, Jimmy, Larry, Connie, Mike, Susie, and John Stoering; sister-in-law Mary Hagerty; and brothers-in-law Melvin Meyer, Ambrose Pate, and Denny Hagerty.
Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Elysian, with Rev. Michael Ince officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
