ALICE J. GEHRKE, age 93 of Waterville died on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center.
Born on January 30, 1920 in Le Sueur County, Minnesota she was the daughter of Henry and Ida (Braun) Theleman. She married Alfred G. Gehrke on April 8, 1943 in Dresselville. Alice was very dedicated to her church and family. She enjoyed gardening vegetables and many flowers. Raising chickens on the farm was remembered by many. Her handwork of crocheting and quilts are enjoyed by many family and friends. Alice’s lifelong talent of piano playing was enjoyed by the kitchen band she was a member of and playing for her church and nursing home residents. She enjoyed the Senior Center and being with her friends and family in many social events. She was a member of St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church.
Alice is survived by four children, Gerald and Ruth Ann Gehrke of Morristown, Joanne and John Cross of Faribault, Eugene and Audrey Gehrke of Waterville, Susanne and Lee Marquardt of New Prague; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Marie Crosby of Le Sueur. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Janet; three brothers, Marvin, Vernon and Ivan; and two sisters, Jeanette and Dorothy.
Visitation will be held at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 4-7 PM and continue on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.
