Francis Charles 'Frank' Janda
FRANCIS "FRANK" CHARLES JANDA, age 88 of Minnetonka, formerly of Waterville, died on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Lake Minnetonka Shores in Spring Lake Park.
Born in Waterville on February 3, 1931, Francis was the son of Emil and Christine (Schwartz) Janda. Following his graduation from Waterville High School, he served in the United States Army as a medic. After being honorably discharged as a Sergeant, Frank continued his education and graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1956. Frank married Dianne Johnston in July of 1956, and they later divorced. He worked in various accounting roles over the years, but at the time of his retirement Frank managed the accounting department of St. Paul Public Schools. Upon retirement, he moved back to the Janda family farm in Waterville and in 2017, Frank sold his farm and moved to Minnetonka to be nearer to his children and granddaughter. Frank enjoyed staying active, serving as Treasurer and Vice President of the St. Paul PERA and working with the Le Sueur County Republicans. Over the years he enjoyed whitewater rafting, snowmobiling, working out at the gym, watching "Dancing with the Stars" and "NCIS", cooking, and collecting watches. Frank was a gifted blackjack player and he was quietly proud of the fact that he had been banned for life from Mystic Lake Casino for counting cards. He had also volunteered as a voting judge, ran for the school board, and enjoyed trading commodities and investing. His kindness and sense of humor will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Francis is survived by two daughters, Valerie Janda of Chaska and Kristin (Dan) Rebertus of Excelsior; one granddaughter, Jaclyn Rebertus of Excelsior; and former wife Dianne Janda of Bloomington. He is also survived by the Rebertus Family, many friends, nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and three brothers, George, Jerome, and LeRoy Janda.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, with Fr. Michael Ince officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church, which will be followed by a luncheon. Private interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
