FLORENCE MARIE BURMEISTER, age 102, formerly of Waldorf, died on May 14, 2022 at Vista Prairie’s Monarch Meadows in North Mankato.
Born on May 3, 1920, in rural Waldorf to Oscar and Anna (Larson) Swenson. Florence received her education at Country School #81 in rural Waldorf. Following her education, she helped her parents on the family farm. On November 20, 1935, Florence was united in marriage to Harry Burmeister at the Freedom Church Parsonage. Florence continued farming alongside her husband in rural Waldorf where they raised their four children. In 1980, they moved to Waldorf. Together Florence and Harry shared 45 years of marriage before Harry passed away in November of 1980. After the loss of her husband, Florence enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years she moved to Minnesota Lake and eventually to Monarch Meadows. She was an active member of various card clubs in the area, Home Extension Club and Waldorf Senior Citizens. Florence was also a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Waldorf where she was active with ladies aid.
Florence is survived by her children: Arlan (Bev) Burmeister of Owatonna, Ardis Grunzke of Mankato, Shirley (Jerry) Huxford of Deerwood, and Dale (Dianne) Burmeister of Big Lake; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Lorraine Swenson of Rushford, Delilah Burmeister of Mankato, and Hilda Burmeister of Little Fork; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her: parents; husband; granddaughter; two sisters; brother; son-in-law; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Friday, May 20, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf with Rev. Michael Matthews officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday.
