Evelyn Hazard

Evelyn Georgetta Hazard, age 95, of Janesville, died on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Janesville Nursing Home in Janesville.

Born in Foster County, ND on November 18, 1921. Evelyn was the daughter of Martin and Helga (Bye) Hagen. She attended a Country School and graduated Cooperstown High School. After High School, she attended Business School in Minneapolis and worked in the Griggs County Courthouse in Cooperstown, ND until her marriage to Edwin Hazard on December 10, 1939 in Finley ND.

Evelyn and Edwin farmed in Cooperstown area for 29 years and then moved to Warren, MN where they farmed together for another 23 years. They then spent several years with summers in Minnesota and winters in Texas, finally living in Elysian for several years before moving into an apartment in Janesville.

Evelyn, in addition to raising 6 children, was a 4-H leader for 15 years, held every office in her Homemakers club, of which she was a member for 29 years. She was very active in her church, loved to read, garden, sewed her childrens clothes and participated in all of her childrens school activities. She particularly liked spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Elysian Methodist Church.

Evelyn is survived by three sons, Michael (Theresa) Hazard of Elysian, Dwight (Dorothy) Hazard of Capetown, South Africa, and Jeffrey (Susan) Hazard of Rochester; three daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Basol of Janesville, LaRayne Hall of Rock Hill, SC, and Lynn Hazard of Mankato; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Ardys Rundle of Minnetonka, Marjorie (Clifford) Ashland of Cerritos, CA, and Harriet Hagen of Brevard, NC; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2011; five brothers, Clarence, Alf, Ray, Harold and Milton; two sisters-in-law, Helen and Nora; one grandson and one granddaughter.

Evelyn donated her body to the Medical School at Mayo in Rochester.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Elysian United Methodist Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Starkson & Steffel Funeral and Cremation Services ~Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville, MN.

Evelyn passed away on her 77th wedding anniversary so she was able to join her husband for their special day.
