Eugene James Eustice was born on March 13, 1930, to John and Gertrude (Donelan) Eustice in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. Gene attended country school in Alton Township through 8th grade. Following his education, he began farming alongside his father.
On April 7, 1956, Gene was united in marriage to Leona Mathiowetz at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato, and together they raised three children on the family farm where they farmed crops and raised cattle, pigs, and chickens. They shared 61 years of marriage before Leona passed away on September 4, 2017. Gene and Leona were inseparable, they did everything together and are now reunited.
Gene was a worker. He was always tending to his cattle and pigs, while Leona was with her chickens. They retired in 1991, and moved to Waseca where they spent the past 26 years. In retirement they wintered in Arizona and Gene stayed busy helping his son on the family farm. Gene was a former member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville while raising his family. Following his retirement Gene and Leona joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. He was a punctual man, always being 15 minutes early to anything he was attending. Gene always looked forward to visiting relatives every Sunday after Mass and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Eugene is survived by his children: Lynette Brandt of Waseca, Denise (Paul) Britton of Waseca, and Keith (Kelly) Eustice of Janesville; grandchildren: Angela (Matt) Huset, Michael (Emily) Britton, Kevin (Kalie) Britton, T.J. (Anne) Neal, Tyler (TaraAnn) Neal, Travis (Tanya) Neal, Ryan and Sam Eustice; 10 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Willard Brandt; his brothers, Herbert and Donald.
