Ervin Schlie, 79 year old resident of Smiths Mill, died with his family by his side on Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Paul Muther and Rev. Larry Griffin, officiating. Interment will be in Smiths Mill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials preferred.

Ervin Rubin Schlie was born on April 2, 1938 to Carl and Bertha (Zarn) Schlie in their home at Janesville. He was a graduate of Janesville High School with the class of 1957. Following his education, he began working at Doss Implement in Janesville and for 21 years he worked at Nyquist Chevrolet in Janesville. He also was employed by Thomas Construction and Smiths Mill Implement until retiring in 2013.
Ervin was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Darlene Gerdts on May 19, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Ervin and Darlene resided in Janesville where they raised their four children. They later moved to Smiths Mill. Ervin and Darlene shared 49 years of marriage prior to Darlenes passing in 2011. Ervin was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Ervin and Darlene enjoyed going to dances in their younger years, playing cards and going on trips together to visit relatives. He was hard worker and would do anything for anyone. He stayed busy tinkering on his own tractors or helping friends with theirs, even after retiring from Smiths Mill Implement. He loved to play dominoes and was know by many as an avid B.Ser. Ervin always had time for his grandchildren, they became the center of his life in his later years. He will be dearly missed.
Ervin is survived by his sons: Steven (Barbara) of Janesville, and Roger (Alison) of Smiths Mill; daughters: Wendy (Robert) Kamm of Kasota, and Muriel Schlie of Eagle Lake; six grandchildren: Kristopher (Jennifer) Schnoor, Cody, Tabitha and Micheala Urban, Kaitlin Kamm, and Tyler Schlie; sisters: Beatrice Johnson of Madison Lake, Beata (Hartwin) Kreft of Vesta: his twin brother, Earl of Eagle Lake and youngest brother, Ben; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, one sister, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Herman and Esther Gerdts.
