Erik Robert Schmitt

ERIK ROBERT SCHMITT, 38 year old resident of Janesville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 30, 2021.

Born on June 3, 1983, to Judy Whiteis and Robert Schmitt. He was raised in Mapleton before finishing high school at Mankato West. He was united in marriage to Lindsey (Peterson) on September 18, 2010. Together they traveled, laughed, and shared a love that will transcend life and death. Erik worked several different jobs throughout his career, but the one constant was his love of people. Whether he was joking with a customer or being the Janesville Therapist, he always had a smile to share. He was a passionate storm chaser, a lover of all sports, a force in the bowling alley, and a skilled woodworker. Erik made friends everywhere he went. Above all else, Erik passionately adored his family. His daughters, Brooklyn & Harper were the center of his world, and he was the best daddy! Erik lived his life trying to make the world a better place, which he instilled in his girls daily. Brooklyn recently said, “My dad was the best because he made people better”. His legacy will live on in all of those who loved him!

Erik leaves behind his wife, Lindsey Schmitt; daughters: Brooklyn and Harper Schmitt; mother, Judy Whiteis; siblings: Rick (Terri) Schmitt, Vonda (Al) Dulas, Val (John) Weber, Cindy Whities, Mike (Abby) Schmitt, Lisa Schmitt, Steven (Kim) Schmitt; as well as countless cousins, nieces and nephews that will miss him terribly.

Preceded in death by his father, Robert Schmitt.

A celebration to honor Erik’s life will be from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Purple Goose in Janesville followed by the Jay’s baseball game at the Janesville High School Field.
