Emil A. Berndt, age 93 of Janesville, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Janesville Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the St. John''s-Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Iosco Township, Waseca County. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Wednesday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Emil Albert was born on April 4, 1916 to William and Elizabeth (Quade) Berndt in Janesville Township, Waseca County. Emil was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. On June 15, 1941 Emil was united in marriage to Edna Cora Evenson in Minong, Wisconsin. Emil and Edna farmed in the Janesville Area until September of 1957, when they moved into town. Over the years Emil was employed with Birds Eye of Waseca, Owatonna Canning Company, and as a self- employed carpenter. After retirement Emil kept busy refinishing and restoring furniture, woodworking and traveling. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Emil enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family; especially watching his great grandchildren play. He is survived by his son David (Carol) Berndt of Janesville; by his four grandchildren Michael (Jodi) Berndt of Sartell, Ryan (Elise) Berndt of Chicago, Lisa (Gale) Smith of Canyon City, CO, and Melissa (Anthony) Wagner of Eden Prairie; by his five great grandchildren Ethan Berndt, Anthony Berndt, Emily Berndt, Andrew Berndt, and Katelyn Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 16, 1992; by his parents, seven sisters and five brothers. Casketbearers are: Michael Berndt, Ryan Berndt, Anthony Wagner, Gale Smith, Ralph Berndt, and Gordon Haynes. Honorary casketbearers are: Melissa Wagner and Lisa Smith.
