EDITH LOUISE BARBER, age 84 of Waseca, died Thursday, December 14, 2023, at her home.

Born on July 7, 1939, in Madelia, Edith was the daughter of Robert and Irene (Keech) Lord. On August 30, 1958, she married James C. Barber, at Springfield Methodist Church in Springfield. In her professional life, Edy made significant contributions in various capacities. She served as a secretary in Mankato, MN, Baltimore, MD, New Ulm, and Mountain Lake, MN, and as the Executive Director of Mountain Lake Housing and Redevelopment Authority. She was a licensed real estate broker and held the position of a supervisor in Inside Technical Sales. Edy was also an advisor to the yearbook and SADD Chapter at the Mountain Lake High School Resource Room and co-owner of Sears Catalog Merchant Store in Ortonville, MN, and Fluid Power Technical Sales in Eden Prairie, MN. She retired in July 2004, after which she worked part-time at Assist-2-sell, Waseca County News, and Walmart in Waseca.

Edy was a proud member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Waseca Post 238, Charis/Pathways Prison Ministry, United Methodist Women, and Unidos En Cristo. She was deeply involved in her religious community as a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca. Edy was an avid nature lover who enjoyed her pets, birdwatching, walking, and bike riding. She also found great joy in art projects, knitting, and spending quality time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Sandy) Barber of Fredericksburg,VA; grandchildren, Stephanie (Tyler) Burke and their children, Lenyx , Leightyn, Kallie, and Kaylynn of Morristown, MN, Lauren Barber of Owatonna, MN, Justin (Morgan) Elliott and their children Fallyn, Peyton, and Hudson of Fredericksburg, and Jacob (Tori) Elliott of Fredericksburg; brothers, Philip Lord of Copperas Cove, Texas, and James Lord of Redwood Falls, MN; several nieces, nephews and extended relatives, and special friend Don Lynch. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Phyllis Barber and mother-in-law and father-in-law Bennie and Rozella Barber.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday, December 18, 2023, at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Jon Schultz officiating. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date. Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
