Earl 'Red' Dimmel February 16, 1937 - June 6, 2013
Earl "Red" Dimmel, age 76, of Shieldsville, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the North Memorial Hospital due to complications from a form of Leukemia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville (7525 Dodd Rd., Faribault). Interment will be at the St. Patrick Cemetery, Shieldsville, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and on Monday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Earl Charles Dimmel, the son of Henry and Ida (Schroeder) Dimmel, was born on February 16, 1937 in Janesville, MN. He graduated from Janesville High School and shortly after served in the U.S. Army. He married Mary Jane Frana on April 29, 1961 at St. Patrick''s Church in Shieldsville. Earl worked for Chandler-Brown-Wilbert Burial Vault Company for 36 years, retiring in 1997. He was a reliable volunteer at St. Patrick''s Church, maintaining the cemetery for 17 years, serving on many committees and always available to fix most anything. He and Mary Jane wintered in Florida for the past 10 winters where he was known as "Earl the Bike Man", fixing and maintaining the bikes for many. He enjoyed hunting, and watching most sporting events, including boxing and fastpitch softball. He loved his time in his workshop working on small engines and other projects. For over 40 years Earl enjoyed motorcycle rides, travelling to many destinations and was a longtime member of the Camel Motorcycle Group. Above all, Earl treasured the time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Dimmel of Shieldsville; son, William (Lynda) Dimmel of Anoka and their children, Dana (Ben) Geving, Joseph (Hastings) Dunsmoor, and Matthew (Tracy) Dunsmoor; daughter, Susan, (Stephan) Thomas of Minneapolis, and their children, Samuel and Sarah Thomas; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Belva Brown; brothers,
Ross (Elaine) Dimmel, Loren Dimmel, and Elmer (Marilyn) Dimmel; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Victor and Darhld Dimmel; and sisters, Myrles Ferch and Helen.
