Dr. Thomas (Tom) Fredrick Kiner, age 87 of Janesville, MN died on April 16, 2024, in Janesville, MN.
Tom was born October 30, 1936, in Waseca County to John and Selma (Kotz) Kiner. He was baptized and confirmed at Janesville United Methodist Church. He graduated in 1954 from Janesville High School. He attended Mankato State University for 2 years in the pre-dental program and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1960. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1960-1962. He was a captain in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, Little Rock, Arkansas.
On June 27, 1959, Tom was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Engel at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Clair, Minnesota. Together they raised 4 children. They shared 64 years of marriage.
Tom opened a dental practice in Janesville, MN in 1962 and retired in 1998.
Tom was a life long active member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bird watching and was a past member of the Minnesota Ornithological Union. He also enjoyed wood working, local high school and college sports. Tom was a charter member of the Janesville Rotary Club. Tom and Dot hosted 6 Rotary Exchange Students from various countries. Tom and Dot loved spending time at their cabin on Lake Frances and spending their winters after retirement in Texas.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Kiner; children: Robert (Michelle) Kiner of Eagan, Patty (Joel) Whitehurst of Elysian, Jenny (Patrick) Wells of St. Anthony, and Mark (Jenny) Kiner of Lakeville; grandchildren: Joe, Rachel and Alexis Kiner; Brooke (Mitch) Mulert and Jack Galler; Madison, William and Grace Kiner. He is also survived by three step grandchildren: Hillary (fiancé Jesse) Whitehurst, Hailey (Nick) Bailly and Brett (Kamryn) Whitehurst; two great step grandchildren, James and Layla Bailly; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Jack, Helen and Jimmy.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Janesville United Methodist Church in Janesville with Kathy King officiating. Interment will be in the Smiths Mill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday and continue until the time of the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the Janesville United Methodist Church or the Janesville Area Foundation.
